Anthropic commits $11.6B over seven years to Akamai for CPU compute; Akamai grants Anthropic a warrant for up to ~5% of its stock

Akamai announced a seven-year, $11.6B agreement for Anthropic workloads on its cloud, using CPUs rather than GPUs. The commitment can grow by up to $9B, to about $20B. Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant convertible into up to about 5% of its shares, vesting with spending milestones. Akamai stock rose as much as 17% after hours.

Why it mattersFrontier-lab spend is spreading beyond GPUs into CPU-heavy workloads and beyond the hyperscalers, with equity sweeteners attached. That's a new template for compute deals.

UncertainThe terms come from TechCrunch's reading of the release. We couldn't open the primary release directly.

Oracle sends a force majeure notice on its Project Jupiter data center in New Mexico and says the schedule is unchanged

Oracle sent developer Blue Owl a force majeure notice on the 2.45 GW Project Jupiter campus, a Stargate site. The clause would let Oracle delay payments if the site misses its 2028 launch target. The gas pipeline meant to fuel the site's fuel cells has been pushed to February 2027 after permit rejections. Oracle says the project remains on its planned schedule, and Blue Owl says its financial commitments are unchanged. Oracle shares fell about 3%.

Why it mattersIt's the clearest sign yet of delivery and power risk at a Stargate site that OpenAI's capacity plans depend on. It also puts the terms of AI data-center financing to a live test.

UncertainWhether the 2028 date actually slips is unresolved. Oracle says no delay is expected, while the notice itself keeps the option to delay payments open. Reuters' sources describe knock-on effects for AI financing; we haven't reviewed that article in full.

Report: DeepSeek's annualized revenue hits $1B; the startup is finalizing a raise of about $7.5B

The Information reports that DeepSeek's annualized revenue has reached about $1B after API price increases, and that it's finalizing a raise of about $7.5B ahead of a planned Shanghai STAR Market listing. The South China Morning Post first reported the pre-IPO round in August.

Why it mattersIt would be DeepSeek's first outside capital, and it shows the leading Chinese open-weights lab turning usage into revenue. That's a reference point for valuing other Chinese labs.

UncertainDeepSeek hasn't confirmed this. The figures come from one reporting chain.

What changedA named lead investor (Accel) now comes from a second, independent outlet, which corroborates Bloomberg's ~$15B valuation for Modal. Status moves from reported to corroborated.

Why it mattersA named lead makes a close more likely and firms up the valuation comparable.

UncertainThe round hasn't closed; both reports cite talks.
